FAQ

You Have Questions; We Have Answers

Do you have a specific teaching qualification?

I'm the former director and award-winning instructor of an international test prep and admissions consulting company. My career focus has been helping students maximize their standardized test scores, but I'm an entrepreneur at heart, so I combined my two passions and started Acumen Test Prep. I've scored above the 90th percentile on the SAT, LSAT, GMAT and GRE, and my goal is to share everything I've learned. I'm also the parent to two teenage boys and know just how stressful the road from high school to college can be. I'm here to help.

How do you charge for your teaching services?

  • Group SAT Prep Class (11 sessions) $599

  • SAT Elite Prep (14 Sessions) $699

  • 18 hour One-to-One SAT Prep $1295

  • 21 hour One -to-One SAT Prep $1495

  • FREE In-home Meeting to discuss our College Admission Consulting Plans

  • all materials included in all plans

Where do you hold your sessions?

Our current classroom is at 6510 Main Street in East Petersburg.

We have held classes in lots of locations. Hopefully one near you:

During Covid-19 restrictions, we were unable to meet at schools or churches. So...we moved exclusively online. We've had a couple years' experience using GoToMeeting with students in NY, PA, MA, NJ, and VA, and we've successfully transitioned to Live Online classes. We still have small classes, we still work through problems together, we still share a white-board on the screen, and we can still see each student's reaction and help them learn to raise their score...we've learned to make it work!

We livestream all of our in-person classes through the GoTo Meeting Platform, so students who don't live in Central Pennsylvania can join in on the live experience as if they were attending.

Need one-on-one sessions? We'll meet when it's most convenient for you. E-mail us for more info.

How many times does the group class meet?

Session 1 is a practice test (9 am - 12:30 pm). Sessions 2-5 are classroom sessions (3 hours each). Session 6 is a second test. Sessions 6-9 continue to unlock the secrets to the test, so that when we take test #3 (session 10) we're ready to earn your braggin' rights. Session 11 is a review where we pull it all together.

Our SAT Elite program targets High-Scorers. For only an additional $100, SAT Elite includes 3 more 3-hour workshops (14 total sessions) where we really dig deep to reach those final points!

What if I can't make all the sessions?

It's important to take advantage of all the offered instruction, but we know how busy high school students are. Please reach out if you have a scheduling conflict, and we'll do everything we can to find a solution. Many students make up lessons they miss during the same lesson from one of our other course offerings.

What should I bring to class?

Most of the same things you'll bring on test day: no. 2 pencils (with erasers), approved calculator, water, and snacks (or a full meal if you need it -- we know some of our classes run right through dinner).

What if I can't afford the full price?

Please talk to us. We may be able to come up with a payment plan, or access scholarship funds to help. Or goal is to help students recognize their potential, and build their confidence and we hate to see financial concerns jeopardize that. If you're a guidance counselor with questions about how to help financially challenged students, please contact us to discuss how we might help.

What if I'm not happy with my score?

Please talk to us. We want you to love your score. If you don't, we want to know why and how we can help. We're all about your higher score. All Acumen students are invited to sit in on any of our future classes and testing sessions. Talk to us about puttiong together an individualized schedule just for you!
